Over a creative period that was to span half a century, from 1895 to 1945, Joseph Ryelandt became one of the most remarkable late-romantic composers in Belgium. He was 27 when Johannes Brahms died. His musical oeuvre is extensive. He composed a number of majestic oratorios, five symphonies, the opera "Cecilia", cantatas, choral music, sixty outstanding songsto Dutch and French texts, a wealth of chamber music for various ensembles and an important oeuvre for piano, which reveal the refinement of his creative genius. The majority of his works remained unknown. His reaction was typical: 'If God wants my work to be recognized one day, it will. If not, what does it matter? The artist's task is to create, that's all. Success is a luxury and a pleasure, but this are not indispensable…' All recorded compositions are for the first time on cd. The marvelous performances on this CD will reveal to you a truly great composer. Let the joy of discovering him be yours.
