Aart Bergwerff

Aart Bergwerff (Rotterdam, November 6, 1961) is a Dutch organist and teacher of organ and organ building at the Rotterdam Conservatorium.

Bergwerff studied organ, choir direction and church music at the Rotterdam Conservatorium. He continued his organ studies with Harald Vogel in Bunde (Germany) and with Marie-Claire Alain in Paris, concluding his studies with the Prix de Virtuosité. At the Royal Conservatorium in The Hague he studied improvisation with Bert Matter and obtained the Annotation Improvisation Organ.
From 1990 onwards he was organist of the Lutheran Church in The Hague and thus the regular performer of the famous Bätz organ from 1762. Bergwerff was appointed in 1994 as teacher of the main subject organ at the Rotterdam Conservatorium. In addition, he teaches organ building and historical development at the institute. He is organ advisor for restoration and new construction of organs, in collaboration with the Organ Commission of the Dutch Reformed Church and the National Heritage Service, and in that capacity is involved in numerous restorations of historic organs.
In March 1993 he gave with the Brabants Orkest the world premiere of the Concerto for Organ and Orchestra by Jo van den Booren, on the occasion of the opening of the organ in the Muziekcentrum Frits Philips in Eindhoven. Since 1994 he is conductor and artistic director of the vocal ensemble Musiqu'amis in Brielle.
