Belcea Quartet
Belcea Quartet is a string quartet, founded in 1994, under the direction of violinist Corina Belcea.
The quartet's most important mentors were members of the Alban Berg Quartett and the Amadeus Quartet. The repertoire of Belcea Quartet is very versatile. Belcea regularly performs world premieres - such as Mark-Anthony Turnage's quartets 'Twisted Blues with Twisted Ballad' in 2010, 'Contusion' in 2014, and Thomas Larcher's 'Lucid dreams' in 2015, Krzysztof Penderecki's Fourth String Quartet and the Third Quartet by Joseph Phibbs in 2016, alongside the great classical and romantic repertoire. Regular partners with whom Belcea Quartet performs are Pjotr Anderszewski, Till Fellner and Antoine Tamestit. Since the 2017-2018 season, Belcea Quartet is artist-in-residence at Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin. The quartet's discography is extensive. On the EMI Classics label, the complete quartets of Britten and Bartók and works by, among others, Schubert, Brahms, Mozart, Debussy, Ravel and Dutilleux were released. In 2012 and 2013, Belcea recorded the complete quartets of Beethoven, live in the Benjamin Britten Studio in Snape, for the label ZigZag Territories, which was awarded with, among others, a Gramophone Award. Subsequently, recordings were released with works by Webern, Berg and Schoenberg and the complete quartets and Piano Quintet by Brahms, which was awarded the Diapason d'or 2016.
