B'Rock Orchestra

B'Rock Orchestra is a period orchestra that was founded in Ghent in 2005.

The orchestra was established on the initiative of harpsichordist Frank Agsteribbe, double bassist Tom Devaere and culture managers Hendrik Storme and Tomas Bisschop. The first concert of B'Rock Orchestra took place in Muziekcentrum De Bijloke Gent on 3 September 2005.

B'Rock Orchestra does not have a permanent conductor, but works with guest conductors and various soloists. Per season the orchestra performs around 45 concerts at home and abroad. In its programming choices, B'Rock Orchestra combines established values from baroque literature with lesser-known repertoire from the 17th and 18th centuries. Furthermore, the orchestra stands for programming in which old and contemporary music meet. Special attention is given to the creation of new music tailored to its historical instrumentation. Old music in combination with theatre, visual arts and/or video is also part of its artistic DNA. In the 2018-2019 season, for example, the orchestra toured with violinist Amandine Beyer and dancer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker (from Rosas) in a production of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos.

In 2012, B'Rock Orchestra debuted at De Munt/La Monnaie with the opera Orlando by Händel under the direction of René Jacobs. In 2019, the orchestra performed for the first time at the Opéra National de Paris with conductor René Jacobs and director Romeo Castellucci.
