Ignace Michiels
Ignace Michiels (Brugge, 7 December 1963) is a Belgian musician.
Michiels studied organ, piano and harpsichord at the conservatory of his birthplace Brugge. In 1986 he became laureate at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven. He pursued further studies successively with Robert Anderson at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Brussel with Herman Verschraegen and with Odile Pierre at the Conservatoire National de Paris, where he obtained the Prix d' Excellence. At the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Gent he obtained the Higher Diploma for organ.
Ignace Michiels is a teacher at the Brugs Conservatorium and also teaches organ at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Gent (Hogeschool Gent, department of music and dramatic arts). From 1990 to 2005 he was the conductor of the Brugs oratorio choir Cantores, with which he performed various works by great masters.
In the year 2001 he founded together with his German colleague Gabriël Dessauer the Regerchor International. This formation consists of Flemish and German singers.
Since 1991 he has been titular organist of the Sint-Salvatorskathedraal in Brugge and organizer of the Cathedral concerts there. With those concerts he mixes the classical timbres of the instrument in combination with other instruments.
