Kassa Overall

Kassa Overall (Seattle, circa 1980) is an American jazz drummer, singer and composer.

Overall studied music at Oberlin College, with Billy Hart, Michael Rosen, Elvin Jones and Billy Higgins. After his studies he moved to New York where he played with, among others, Christian McBride, Donald Byrd, Vijay Iyer, Francis & the Lights, Mayer Hawthorne, Wallace Roney, Ravi Coltrane, Gary Bartz, Iron Solomon and Gordon Voidwell. He played for several years in Geri Allen's group Timelife (recordings in 2009) and worked regularly with Theo Croker's band. He recorded with Anne Drummond (Revolving, 2012). He also collaborated on various hip-hop and independent rock projects. He worked as a rapper and producer with Das Racist and the duo Kool & Kass (with Kool A.D.). He performed in the house band of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. As a solo artist he released the singles Cauliflower (2014), Naked Light (2016) and Cussing at the Strip (2017). With Peter Evans and John Hébert he recorded the album Zebulon (More Is More Records, 2013). Currently he performs in Stephan Crump's band Rhombal (with Ellery Eskelin and Adam O'Farrill).
