Laurens de Man
Laurens de Man (born 's-Hertogenbosch, 14 September 1993) is a Dutch pianist and organist.
De Man was born in 's-Hertogenbosch and grew up in Rosmalen. At age six he received his first piano lessons from Anneke Siebers; from age eleven he studied organ with Willem Hörmann. From 2008 to 2010 he took piano lessons with Joop Albracht at Fontys Conservatorium Tilburg. He continued his studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he obtained his master's diploma in organ in 2016 as a student of Jacques van Oortmerssen, Pieter van Dijk and Matthias Havinga; in 2017 he completed his master's studies in piano as a student of David Kuyken. He also took harpsichord lessons with Johan Hofmann at the same institution from 2012 to 2017. Subsequently he obtained his Konzertexamen Orgel with Leo van Doeselaar at the Berlin Universität der Künste.
De Man performs as an organist and pianist. Since 2012 he has been principal organist of the Janskerk in Utrecht, where he plays the Bätz-Witte organ from 1861. Since 2012 De Man has formed the Chimaera Trio together with clarinetist Annemiek de Bruin and cellist Irene Kok, for which he also arranges music. From 2021-2023 he was organist in residence of the Contiusorgel in the Sint-Michielskerk in Leuven. At the Conservatorium van Amsterdam he is affiliated as a teacher of classical piano as a subsidiary subject for jazz pianists. As of September 2023 he has been appointed as principal organ teacher at the Utrechts Conservatorium.
