Nadar Ensemble
Nadar Ensemble (Sint-Niklaas) is a Belgian ensemble for contemporary music and works with composers who use electronic and audiovisual applications. They were successively artist in residence of De Bijloke in Gent, Concertgebouw Brugge and deSingel in Antwerpen.
Nadar Ensemble was founded in 2006 by several young musicians, with the aim of presenting contemporary music. The name refers to French writer, photographer, journalist and balloonist Gaspard-Félix Tournachon (1820 to 1910), who used the pseudonym Nadar. Cellist Pieter Matthynssens and composer Stefan Prins are both artistic directors of the Ensemble, which focuses on work by young national and international composers.
At the Ars Musica festival in BOZAR in Brussels they presented work by Beat Furrer, Daan Janssens, José María Sánchez-Verdú, Simon Steen-Andersen, Serge Verstockt and Prins in 2008 and 2009. On De Nieuwe Reeks they presented a portrait of Olga Neuwirth in 2008. They performed at many different venues, mainly throughout Europe.
In 2009 they performed at the Handelsbeurs in Gent, with Rerendered by Danish composer Simon Steen-Andersen.
Since 2010 they have organized the Nadar Summer Academy for young musicians in Sint-Niklaas, together with MATRIX [New Music Centre].
In 2011 they made their debut at deSingel in Antwerpen, with a program of Simon Steen-Andersen and Johannes Kreidler.
