Nelson Goerner
Nelson Goerner (San Pedro, Argentina, 9 May 1969) is an Argentine pianist.
Nelson Goerner won first prize at the Franz Liszt Competition in Buenos Aires in 1986, and met Martha Argerich that same year. After studying at the Conservatory of Geneva with Maria Tipo, he won first prize at the Geneva International Musical Performance Competition in 1990.
As a soloist, Goerner has since performed with orchestras such as Philharmonia Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, Hallé Orchestra, Tokyo's NHK Symphony Orchestra under conductors such as Armin Jordan, Andrew Davis, Emmanuel Krivine, Neeme Järvi, Frans Brüggen, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Philippe Herreweghe, Sir Mark Elder and Fabio Luisi. He has performed in chamber music formations with Martha Argerich, Steven Isserlis, Sol Gabetta and Gary Hoffman.
To date, Goerner has made recordings of works by Chopin, Schumann, Liszt, Debussy and Rachmaninoff, as well as Paderewski.
