Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège (Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège - OPRL), founded in 1960, is the only professional symphonic ensemble in French-speaking Belgium. With the support of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, the city of Liège and the province of Liège, the OPRL performs in Liège, in the prestigious Philharmonic Hall (1887), throughout the rest of the country (Antwerpen, Brussel, Charleroi, Hasselt, Bergen, Namen, Saint-Hubert, Sankt Vith, ...), the major halls and festivals of Europe (Amsterdam, Parijs, Wenen, Spanje, Zwitserland, ...), but also in Japan and the United States.

In 2019 the OPRL tours in Japan and is a guest at the prestigious Enescu Festival in Boekarest. In 2020 it appears on the programme of the Rostropovich Festival in Moskou. Founder Fernand Quinet and music directors such as Manuel Rosenthal, Paul Strauss, Pierre Bartholomée, Louis Langrée, Pascal Rophé, François-Xavier Roth and Christian Arming gave the OPRL an identity at the crossroads of Germanic and French traditions. From September 2019 onwards, Gergely Madaras takes over the torch.
