Roel Dieltiens

Roel Dieltiens (Antwerpen, 1956) is a Belgian cellist.

He comes from a musical family: his father Lode Dieltiens (1926-2014) was a composer of choral works, teacher of harmony and music theory at the Muziekconservatorium in Antwerpen and at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven, and organist and cantor at the Sint-Pieterskerk in Berlaar. His brother Koen Dieltiens is a recorder player. Roel Dieltiens initially studied piano, but switched to the cello at the age of 14. At the age of 15, he already won a "First Prize" at the Conservatorium van Antwerpen, where he studied with André Messens. He continued his studies at the Muziekkapel Koningin Elisabeth, with André Navarra in Detmold and Pierre Fournier in Genève.

He performs, among others, with violinist André Gertler, clarinetist Walter Boeykens, and the Orkest van de Achttiende Eeuw (with Frans Brüggen). With his Ensemble Explorations, he presents early music. He also performs with various artists in chamber music settings. Additionally, he is interested in musical, dance and music theater, such as the production "Lets op Bach" by Alain Platel from 1991.

Roel Dieltiens also teaches at the Musikhochschule in Zürich and at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven.
