Victor Julien-Laferrière
Victor Julien-Laferrière (Paris, June 25, 1990) is a French cellist. In 2017 he won the Queen Elisabeth Competition.
Julien-Laferrière had René Benedetti as his first teacher at age seven and subsequently studied from 2004 to 2008 at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse with Roland Pidoux. He further perfected his skills from 2009 to 2014 in Vienna as a student of Heinrich Schiff at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien and until 2016 in Salzburg with Clemens Hagen at the Mozarteum.
He won first prize and two special mentions at the International Spring Competition in Prague in 2012. In 2013 he was elected at the Victoires de la Musique classique as a revelation as a soloist on an instrument (Révélation Soliste Instrumental) and won the Prix de la Fondation Safran pour la Musique.
Julien-Laferrière was active in productions of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and the Staatsphilharmonie Košice.
He is co-founder of the ensemble Trio Les Esprits, consisting of pianist Adam Laloum, violinist Mi-Sa Yang and himself. They have already performed at the Folle Journée de Nantes, the festival de Deauville, at the Criée à Marseille and at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. They rehearse in residence at the Fondation Singer-Polignac in Paris and released their first album on the Mirare label in 2014.
