30 years Sani Festival: a festival born from a passion for music and art, championing innovation, quality and aesthetics. The Sani Festival was originally an initiative by entrepreneurs to build a bridge between tourism and culture. The festival worked hard towards international recognition and resonance, resulting in this special location in Greece now being on the map of the international music scene. The highlight of the festival this year is also Greece's biggest musical event: a festive concert by Andrea Bocelli, the world's most beloved tenor.
The idea for this bold festival first took shape in 1992, and from the first melodies of Jazz on the Hill, the success of Sani Festival was written in the stars. Sani Hill, with its majestic medieval tower in the background, is the ideal setting for the music festival. It is precisely at this location, where art comes into harmony with the sea, the starry sky and the green surroundings, that this festival established itself as one of Greece's most leading cultural events. Over three decades, across no fewer than 385 concerts, performances and events, both music legends and new talent from all over the world, alongside Greek artists, have given their best on the stage of the Sani Festival.
As a tribute to the consistent level, quality and prestige of the concerts, the Sani Festival put together an impressive and refreshingly different programme for its thirtieth anniversary, unique for Greece. This summer, Sani Hill will be the setting for concerts by both Greek and foreign artists, which will be etched into the collective memory. Living legends from the jazz, pop & rock world – who are stopping at the festival as one of the few stops on their tour – and artists returning to Greece after decades are just a few examples of what this celebratory edition has to offer:
Chucho Valdés, Paquito D'Rivera, Al Di Meola, Jack Savoretti, Bob Geldof. It is the first time that pop and rock are on the repertoire of this festival, which continues to reinvent itself. At the same time, especially for this 30th anniversary, two Greek productions will be performed with leading Greek performers, who embody the innovation and creativity that the festival is seeking:
