Bart Van Reyn is one of four new artistic voices at Anima Eterna Brugge. With Brahms' First Piano Concerto and Schumann's Fourth Symphony, he makes his debut with the orchestra: grand, Romantic repertoire that under his hands gets to be completely new again – partly thanks to the artistic research of the Anima musicians.
Anima Eterna, already 35 years pushing boundaries in historical performance practice, will work in the coming seasons with four new conductors. Violinist Midori Seiler and the widely appreciated Italian conductor Giovanni Antonini have already conducted the orchestra in previous seasons. This summer Anima Eterna looks forward to working with international top conductor Pablo Heras-Casado. Now it is the turn of the Fleming Bart Van Reyn, who in turn is building a fascinating and colourful trajectory with the orchestra.
Working with an orchestra like Anima Eterna is for Bart Van Reyn simply a logical 'next step'. Historical performance practice has been part of his artistic background since 2005, as heir as he is to inspiring predecessors such as John Eliot Gardiner, Philippe Herreweghe and of course also Jos van Immerseel. With his own ensemble Le Concert d'Anvers he caught the attention of the international press. Now, with Anima Eterna, he gets for the first time a historically informed symphonic orchestra in his hands.
"I think we can stand on the shoulders of the previous generation. And that is an enormous gift. Through them we inherit not only a wealth of knowledge, but also an entire generation of musicians who know exactly what they are doing. It is our task to continue that research". Bart Van Reyn.
Time and space: these are keywords for Van Reyn. To reflect and to explore. To grow and to wonder. The orchestra members delve into the latest insights on performance practice. Van Reyn in turn surprises them with the fresh 'fire of the moment' that is so characteristic of him. A new artistic alliance is in the making.
