"For a performer, the premiere of a work is a frightening experience in which he has to find a subtle balance between enthusiastic imagination and modest, detailed analysis. Well, I had the strange but reassuring feeling of being guided by the hand of Schumann and his cycle of miniatures, and of Chopin, Scriabin, Debussy and the many composers who have written preludes. The architecture of these cycles, although the performer must always keep it in mind, is hidden behind the attention paid to each detail, as if it were of little importance. In the same way that each organ gives life to the organism, the life of each element here creates that of the whole. So I came face to face with a life-size piece that required the kind of work I was used to."
