Festival Kortrijk is ready for its thirteenth edition in 2022. With the title Normal Gets You Nowhere, Wilde Westen invites its concert-goers to return to the concert halls. Live is the keyword of this edition. "No digital stream can replace it," says the organization. What can we expect during this thrilling live edition?
Cellist Benjamin Glorieux returns. After a short edition in 2021, the Belgian musician is back as guest curator for the 2022 edition. His life motto "Normal Gets You Nowhere" runs as a red thread throughout the program and is also the title of this year. Il Gardellino & Raymond van het Groenewoud open Festival Kortrijk together with Benjamin Glorieux on March 9. On Friday, March 11, the cellist takes the stage again, this time together with students from Conservatorium Kortrijk, and on March 13 he closes the festival with blues legend Roland Van Campenhout.
Other musicians on the bill include Matthieu Idmtal together with young talent Marley Erickson, soprano Elisa Soster together with the soloists of the HERMESensemble who perform work by Wim Henderickx, a children's concert with Nadar Ensemble, and violinist Sylvia Huang accompanied by the Brussels Philharmonic.
Prior to the festival, there is also the lecture "(De)colonization of indigenous music in Colombia". On February 22, Austrian musicologist Karin Harrasser and musician Tom Pauwels will give this lecture, which serves as an introduction to the concert 'Eupepsia / Dyspepsia' by Ictus on March 11.
