'The Twelve Cellists', it's quite a concept throughout the world and everyone immediately knows it's those twelve from the Berliner Philharmoniker. For reasons unknown, they have never performed as an ensemble on any stage in our country. Yet these 12 travel the world as true cello-apostles to win over the general public for the cello and classical music. With success!
28 October 2026 will be something of a historic music date and it will not only be Klassiek Centraal who will be there, but hopefully you as a reader will manage to secure a spot in Studio 4 of Flagey in Brussels. The ladies and gentlemen cellists will spoil you with a very varied programme, not too serious classical music, it needs to have 'schwung' and it is after all a very first meeting in person. It will be a mixture of all sorts of pieces arranged for the ensemble – the original compositions for 12 cellos are not exactly easy to come by – and atmosphere is guaranteed.
Exclusive contest for free tickets
The Yunison organisation is confident that the hall will soon be fully booked. We are allowed to, indeed, exclusively raffle off some tickets, 5 x 2 tickets. It may perhaps seem a bit more difficult to find the correct answers to the three questions below and the compulsory tiebreaker question, but who wouldn't want to make a special effort to enjoy this unique concert for free?
Questions
- There is a rumour that the cello suites of Johann Sebastian Bach were not composed for cello because the cello did not even exist in his time. Is that correct? And if so, for which instrument would he have composed these famous suites?
- ……………………………………………………………………………………………
- When and how did the ensemble The 12 Cellists come into being within the Berliner Philharmoniker?
- ……………………………………………………………………………………………
- The ensemble is something unique in the modern history of classical music. Pablo Casals dreamed of a complete cello orchestra. But is it really that unique? Does it have precedents with more or less related instruments in the more distant past?
- …………………………………………………………………………………………
Tiebreaker question
How many answers will Klassiek Centraal have received by 15 August 2026, 24:00? In case of a tie, an innocent hand will determine the winner(s).
