Festival Midis-Minimes: singing in the spotlight

From 1 July to 31 August, the Festival Midis-Minimes is in its 36th edition. The programme of this popular event for music lovers includes: Belgian and international talent, prestigious ensembles and atypical discoveries.

As the Brussels Conservatorium is not accessible in July due to the dismantling of the organ, the festival takes place in July in the church of Onze-Lieve-Vrouw ter Zege on the Zavel, after which it returns to the Conservatorium in August.

Throughout the great traditions of the lied and Baroque music, but also in new explorations of the Middle Ages or the world of song, this new edition of Festival Midis-Minimes puts singing in the spotlight, with in particular the lyrical singer Agathe Peyrat and the Chamber Choir of Namur, which under the direction of Thibaut Lenaerts will close off this musical summer.

On 1 July, the Brussels orchestra ensemble opens the festival with Beethoven's Triple concerto in C major, opus 56.

Among the prestigious artists on the programme are Jos Van Immerseel (Be), harpsichordist and pianist Justin Taylor (Fr), gambists François Joubert-Caillet (Fr) and Romina Lischka (AT) and the multiple award-winning Brussels ensemble Les Muffatti.

During the Festival Midis-Minimes, young talent also gets a platform with the promising Brecht Valckenaers (piano), Maya Levy (violin), Nour Ayadi (piano), Ekaterina Babich (soprano) and Stéphanie Huang (cello), alongside the Ernest and the Cortenbach Trio.

In addition to the not-to-be-missed piano week, the quartet week welcomes for the first time the winner of the prestigious International String Quartet Competition of Bordeaux.

The Festival Midis-Minimes, which started in 1986, travels through music history every summer, from the Middle Ages to now, and offers dozens of intimate and accessible concerts. They are the ideal lunch break on weekdays.
