In December 2021, Bernard Dewulf passed away. He was a poet and columnist, but also a playwright, essayist, dramaturg and lecturer. In all his texts he proved to be an eloquent observer of his fellow man: in the intimacy of his own home, as a husband and father, but also of the passerby on the street. Wonder was his driving force – and it also inspired him in looking at art. Or at the play of light on a weekday morning. He approached all these subjects with the same seriousness, and with his seemingly light-footed pen: as subtle captures of everyday life.
So too in Jaargetijden, the moving collection that appeared this autumn with new impressions from his hand. For four seasons he takes the reader with him to look at things together: a table, death, his old bicycle, friendship, a hippopotamus in the bathroom, the universe, a girl in the supermarket. It is a warm reunion on paper to which we would like to add a sequel with a special evening under the same title, Jaargetijden – as a tribute to a unique voice and pen.
In collaboration with VBK België and publisher Atlas Contact, Behoud de Begeerte invites you on Saturday, January 14, at 8 p.m., in the Zuiderpershuis, Waalse Kaai 14, Antwerpen. Among others, Dirk Roofthooft, Suzanne Grotenhuis and Tijmen Govaerts read text fragments; the live music is by Stef Kamil Carlens.
