Leonardo García Alarcón, the Chœur de Chambre de Namur and the Millenium Orchestra have received an ICMA (category baroque recording/vocal music) for their recording of the oratorio Semele by George Friedrich Händel, released on the Ricercar label.
It is the second time that the Chamber Choir and their artistic director receive this particularly important international distinction, following their recording dedicated to Roland de Lassus in 2017.
The jury of the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) presents each year the only international record and world music awards in the world. With representatives from 19 media outlets from 16 countries, the magazines Andante, Crescendo, Das Orchester, Musica, Musik & Theater, Musical Life, Opera, Papageno, Pizzicato, ResMusica, Rondo Classic and Scherzo, the radio stations Deutsche Welle, MDR-Klassik, Polskie Radio Chopin, Radio 100,7 and Radio Romania Muzical, the umbrella organization Unison-Croatia and the International Music and Media Center (IMZ), the ICMA reaches millions of people.
The International Classical Music Awards are the successors to the former MIDEM Classical Awards. Since then, the jury has become completely independent, larger and more international, with new members. The strength and importance of the ICMA today are truly exceptional. There is no comparable organization in the entire music world.
The awards ceremony and gala concert with the ICMA laureates will take place at the NFM National Forum of Music in Wroclaw, Poland, on April 21, 2023.
