Invisible Stream: the "unseen currents" are those that connect people and musical works by transcending styles or customary aesthetic and cultural boundaries. A feast of poetic expression organized by four key representatives of both the classical and jazz music scenes of today, this disc initiates a dialogue – motivated by the purest spirit of improvisation – between the compositions of Raphaël Imbert and those of Schubert, Wagner, and Ornette Coleman.
In 2019, the festival Des Rencontres Musicales de Haute-Provence took place in the southern French town of Forcalquier. During this festival, cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras and jazz saxophonist Raphaël Imbert, together with drummer Sonny Troupé and pianist Pierre François Blanchard, founded the quartet Invisible Stream.
Jean-Guihen Queyras takes the listener on a journey into a world with self-made jazz versions of O du, mein holder Abendstern (from Wagner's Tannhäuser) and An die Musik by Franz Schubert. Also featured on this recording are Hanns Eisler's An den kleinen Radioapparat (from Hollywooder Liederbuch) and Des Ronds dans l'Eau by Raymod Le S'néchal and Pierre Barouh. The compositions are alternated with arrangements by Raphaël Imbert.
In the Netherlands, this programme will be performed live for the first time during the Cello Biënnale at the Bimhuis on 28 October 2022.
