After two successful editions, the Klankdomein festival returns in October 2024 with three unique concerts. This young festival once again offers a fascinating journey through 200 years of Flemish music, from the renowned Peter Benoit to contemporary composer Brecht Valckenaers. The program brings together an impressive mix of emerging and established musicians and ensembles, who will take the audience on a musical discovery tour.
Friday 18 October 2024: Piano recital by young talents
The festival opens on Friday 18 October at 20:00 in the enchanting concert hall of Beaujean, located at Frankrijklei 115 in Antwerpen. Here, three promising young pianists will take their place at the grand piano: Wouter Valvekens, Babette Craens and Brecht Valckenaers. Each of them will perform a short but powerful recital, allowing the audience to enjoy their virtuosity and personal interpretations.

Saturday 19 October 2024: Chamber music and creation of new work
On Saturday 19 October at 20:00, the festival moves to the Auditorium of the Music Academy of Mortsel, where an evening of chamber music is on the programme. Works by renowned Flemish composers such as Jef Van Hoof, Georges Lonque and Frank Nuyts will be performed. In addition, the audience will also have the opportunity to enjoy the music of the lesser-known, but equally talented, composers Stéphane Vande Ginste and Roland Coryn.
A special moment during this evening is the world premiere of a new work by Mieke Van Haute. The creation of a new composition is always an exciting moment and offers the audience an exclusive insight into the most recent developments in Flemish music.
The evening is further enriched by the contribution of Bart Stouten, who will give a lecture on art and narcissism, drawing links between music and psychology.
Sunday 20 October 2024: Closing concert at Kasteel Sorghvliedt
The festival concludes on Sunday 20 October at 15:00 in the beautiful Kasteel Sorghvliedt in Hoboken. The closing concert offers an intimate programme with delicate compositions by Frits Celis and Jozef Ryelandt. In addition, the audience will be surprised by the innovative combination of harp and electronics in a work by Georges De Decker.
One of the highlights of this afternoon is the virtuoso playing of recorder player Geert Van Gele, who will perform together with the young and promising cellist Merel Van Hemelryck. The versatility of Flemish music is clearly evident in this concert, with a rich palette of sounds and styles.
Finally, Prof. Eric Kerkckhofs will enrich the concert with a short lecture on the psychological effects of music. His insights will give the audience a deeper understanding of how music can influence our emotions and broaden our minds.
