The Mechel Carillon School is ready to brighten up spring and summer with an abundance of carillon news, concerts and competitions. With a varied program, it promises to be a splendid season for carillon music enthusiasts.
Here is an overview of the upcoming activities:
May 11 - Carillon Day: On Saturday, May 11, the Mechel Carillon School organizes its annual Carillon Day. The program includes guided tours, introductory lessons, student concerts on the Sint-Romboutstoren and a grand closing concert at the Cultuurcentrum at 15:30. The concert will be enhanced by the handbell choir Akabella, the 20-year-old children's class and performances on the chamber carillon.
May 27 - Final Work Presentations: On Monday, May 27, graduating students present their final works at the Carillon School from 17:00.
June 8 - Chamber Carillon Final Exam: On Saturday, June 8, four students play their final exam on the chamber carillon in the Sinte-Mettetuin and the concert carillon of the Sint-Romboutstoren.
Summer Series of Carillon Concerts: Starting Monday evening, June 3 at 20:30, the summer series of carillon concerts begins on the Sint-Romboutstoren, with a listening spot on the Cultuurplein. The series will end on Monday, September 9.
Concerts from the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-over-de-Dijlekerk: Two concerts are scheduled from the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-over-de-Dijlekerk on Sunday afternoon, September 1 and 8 at 16:30.
Ninth International Carillon Competition Queen Fabiola: From July 10 to 14, 2024, the Ninth International Carillon Competition Queen Fabiola takes place in Mechelen.
All activities, ranging from final work presentations to summer carillon concerts, are free and accessible to everyone. Only for the final day of the Fabiola competition do we charge admission.
