From December 4 to 7, 2024, the 15th edition of the Music Chapel Festival takes place at Flagey. This year, the festival takes visitors on a sunny musical journey through Italy. For four days, enthusiasts can enjoy the passion of great Italian masters such as Vivaldi, Paganini, Rossini and Respighi, but also the illuminating influence that Italian culture had on composers such as Mozart, Liszt and Berlioz.
Opening concert with MuCH ensemble
The festival opens on December 4 with a concert by the MuCH ensemble and soloists Hawijch Elders (violin) and Ye-Won Cho (cello) conducted by Italian violinist Massimo Quarta. In cooperation with the Academy of the Philharmonie of Luxembourg, they perform works by Wolf, Paganini, Rossini and Tchaikovsky.
Italian opera evening
On December 5, an evening full of Italian opera arias is on the program. Singers in residence at the Music Chapel perform the most beautiful arias, accompanied by the Orchestre de l'Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège conducted by Denis Segond.
Vivaldi evening with baroque music
The third festival evening on December 6 is dedicated to Italian baroque music. Artists in residence Leo Ispir, Alexander Warenberg, Camila Mandillo Roberts and Marie-Juliette Ghazarian perform works by Vivaldi and Pergolesi together with ensemble Il Gardellino.
Closing concert with romantic masterworks
The festival concludes on December 7 with two romantic masterworks: Harold en Italie by Berlioz and Pini di Roma by Respighi. These are performed by young talents from the Music Chapel and the Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Martijn Dendievel, with soloists Natanael Ferreira (viola), Rino Yoshimoto (violin) and Jorge Gimenez (cello).
Chamber music and family concert
In addition to the evening concerts, there are seven chamber music concerts on the program that mirror Italian repertoire with works by composers from other countries. For families, there is a special performance of Le carnaval des animaux, in an arrangement by Alex Vizorek.
The Music Chapel Festival 2024 promises a fascinating dialogue between tradition and innovation, capturing the essence of Italian music. Even in the middle of winter, music knows how to warm hearts and enlighten minds with these sunny Italian sounds in Brussels.
