Internationally acclaimed composer and conductor Dirk Brossé is about to write a new chapter in his impressive career. With 3500 concerts, 1850 compositions and over 200 cd recordings to his credit, he is an unstoppable force in the musical world. On his 65th birthday – February 18 – he is not so much looking back, but forward to a year full of musical and artistic highlights.
A glorious start
The official kick-off of the celebration year takes place on February 16, 2025, in the Radio 1 programme Touché. Two days before his birthday, he will be interviewed by Friedl Lesage about his rich career and future plans. This interview marks the start of a whirlwind of concerts with prestigious orchestras at home and abroad, including Brussels Philharmonic, Belgian National Orchestra, Noord Nederlands Orkest, Het Residentie Orkest, Orchestre national de Lille, Opéra National de Montpellier, Sinfonietta Cracovia, Liverpool Philharmonic, Radio Philharmonisch Orkest, the National orchestra and choir of Lithuania, the National orchestra of Poland, Orchestre Pasdeloup Paris, Prima la Musica and even the renowned London Symphony Orchestra.
World concerts and new CDs
Brossé's energy seems inexhaustible. In addition to the busy concert schedule, there are also five new CDs on the agenda. Each album contains brand new work: a recording with the Koninklijke Militaire Muziekkapel (Netherlands), one with Brussels Philharmonic, one with Sinfonietta Cracovia, one with pianist Anastasia Kenner and finally one with the London Symphony Orchestra. These releases promise a varied insight into Brossé's versatile compositional language.
Festival for film music
Brossé is also the music director of the World Soundtrack Awards, which are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year. These international top events for film music are a unique opportunity to bring together talents from all corners of the world. The fact that the festive edition coincides with Brossé's own jubilee makes the event extra special.
The icing on the cake: the documentary 'ROOTS'
Later this year, 'ROOTS', a documentary by Joris Van den Hauwe, will be released, giving us an intimate look at Brossé's artistic journey. It promises to be a compelling portrait, from his first musical steps to the international fame he enjoys today.
New projects on the horizon
As if that were not enough, Dirk Brossé is currently also working on the music for 'Onze Natuur II', a sequel to the successful documentary about Belgian fauna and flora. He is also writing a musical that will premiere in 2028, and composing various orchestral works and concertos. It illustrates his insatiable hunger for innovation and creation.
