French-American singer Rosemary Standley follows up her successful album Love I Obey here and, after baroque, now turns to German Romanticism. For her project with Sandrine Piau and Ensemble Contraste, she has selected some of Franz Schubert's best-known and most popular songs and instrumental pieces. In arrangements by Johan Farjot and with guests such as jazz trumpeter Airelle Besson, guitarist Kevin Seddiki and drummer Jean-Luc di Fraja, she anchors his music in the rhythms and traditions of foreign lands. There is probably no more emphatic way to refute the cliché of Schubert as a well-behaved Biedermeier composer.
