Jappe Dendievel and Sebastiaan Aerts have become remarkable laureates of the Princes Christina Competition in the Netherlands. Jappe not only won in his age category, but also the National Final.
Jappe Dendievel (16 years old, Oostkamp) won the first prize in the National Final of the Prinses Christina Concours in the Netherlands last Saturday, April 24, which was organized digitally for this 53rd edition.
The youngest YoungStar Sebastiaan Aerts (11 years old, Hoeselt) placed in the prizes at regional level. As an under-12-year-old, he won first prize in the Young Category, South Region 2 and impressed the jury with his trumpet performance.
Laureate Jappe Dendievel won first prize in the preselections (West Region 1). Here he also won the Van Cappellen prize, which offers him a masterclass with a Dutch musician of his choice. Because he had won first prize in the preselections, he was allowed to go to the national final in Utrecht. Here all the winners from the different regions came together. Jappe received first prize in the category 15-19 years studying at a Conservatory. He even performed the brilliant work for bassoon 'Concertino' by Marcel Bitsch in front of professionals.
Jappe Dendievel is a member of the highly musical Dendievel family where all brothers, however young they are, make an international name for themselves. Martijn Dendievel won one of the most important conducting competitions in Germany where he is building his young career. He is associated with, among other things, the Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen. Hannes is also a highly respected musician, but also studies Biomedical Sciences. Oboist Balder Dendievel was awarded the Golden Label Young Talent by Klassiek Centraal in 2018. He also won important prizes and is currently studying in Berlin. The youngest member is Warre and is making his mark on trumpet and marimba.
Goosebumps
Almost 400 candidates from the Netherlands and Flanders participated in the preliminary rounds. The level of the participating musicians proved to be very high and ultimately 17 musicians were selected for the National Final. Jappe made a great impression with his bassoon concert, about which the professional expert jury had the following praise: "You are not only a born bassoonist, but also a true musician through and through. You have chosen a piece that demands the utmost mastery of the instrument in all respects and you have it. We all had goosebumps."
The first prize winner was able to receive the news personally via Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet of the Netherlands, who recorded a special announcement video.
Niels Lukkesen, bass tuba (16 years old, Hamont), received an honorable mention in category 2 and won an audience prize.

Under the direction of Francis Pollet (Golden Label Career 2014), I SOLISTI Belgian wind ensemble Antwerp is not only an international music production house but also a coach for young talented artists. The ACADEMY activities of I SOLISTI focus on creating opportunities as well as motivating and inspiring young promising musicians.
The ACADEMY unfolds itself in four concrete platforms, including the YoungStar project (Nomination Golden Label Debut 2020) where I SOLISTI guides and supports talented musicians between 10 and 18 years old. Through a customized trajectory with their own mentor, young musicians can develop themselves and this clearly bears fruit.
