At the Willaert concert of Dionysus!Now on Friday 27 May in Gent, an important person from Portugal was present. Mr. João Chambers, programmer at Portuguese radio ANTENA 2, had come specially. He hosts an early music program on the radio, a weekly broadcast of two hours each under the title MUSICA AETERNA. He mentioned that in October he will prepare two broadcasts of two hours each about Adriaen Willaert and Dionysus!Now.
MUSICA AETERNA is a very solid program, also known here. It is broadcast every Sunday afternoon from 17:00 to 19:00 (our time) and it is repeated the following Saturday from 13:00 to 15:00 (our time).
The broadcast for example of Sunday 29 May has as its theme "The Fall of Constantinople in 1453 – part II" First we hear O très piteulx de tout espoir fontaine by Guillaume Dufay (1397? – 1474) performed by Jordi Savall. Also other religious works by Dufay, alternated with Byzantine liturgical music.
On Sunday 22 May, rebroadcast on Saturday 28 May, the subject was: "The Fall of Constantinople – part I". In that part we also hear various pieces by Guillaume Dufay sung by Cappella Romana. Also fragments from the Byzantine liturgy.
The works are explained thoroughly, with plenty of music and only brief texts. Fortunately, because we don't understand Portuguese.
All previous broadcasts can still be listened to via the internet. There are already 556 of them!
Ten years ago, 15 December 2012, there was a program devoted to Adriaen Willaert, on the 450th anniversary of his death. In that broadcast we hear among others recordings from the beautiful cd with Willaert's Marian Vespers by Capilla Flamenca conducted by Dirk Snellings.
