With the announcement of the complete program, the Walburgis Proms set course toward a new edition that again brings together four concert moments, each with a distinctly individual character. The familiar number is maintained, but in terms of content, 2026 promises to be a versatile journey through participation, contemplation, virtuosity and historical evocation.
The series opens festively on Sunday 8 March at 4 pm with a concert that emphasizes shared musical experience. As in previous editions, the audience is invited to actively sing along, a formula that has meanwhile become a fixed value. This participatory character gains extra lustre through the presence of some musicians who rank among the absolute top of their discipline. An opening that focuses on energy, connection and musical joy.
At the beginning of Holy Week, on Tuesday 31 March at 8:30 pm, a pronounced contrast follows. With Contemplatio, Jan Noordzij and Dirk Smits join forces for the first time. They deliberately describe this moment not as a concert, but as a meditative experience. Music and text together create a space for deceleration, breath and reflection — an invitation to inner silence, sustained by careful artistic choices.
Summer approaches with the familiar Organ Spectacular on Sunday 7 June at 4 pm. Organist Jan Noordzij once again compiles a program in which the organ can shine in all its colors and possibilities. The precise content remains a surprise for now, but the title alone promises a distinctly virtuoso and richly varied recital.
The final moment of the series takes place in mid-summer, on Saturday 8 August, within the framework of the Nacht van de Kerken. For this occasion, Sint-Walburga is central. For the first time, chants from her codex (dating from the period 600–700) will resound again. In the art-deco church, this historical repertoire forms the backdrop for a special summer night moment, where music, history and space meet.
With these four concerts, the Walburgis Proms confirm their identity: a festival that emphasizes diversity, substantive depth and a close relationship with its audience.
