Portuguese Cláudia Ribas convincing winner of 57th IVC
After a thrilling and atmospheric final, Portuguese mezzo-soprano Cláudia Ribas became the convincing winner of the 57th edition of the International Vocal Competition. From the hands of mayor Mikkers of 's-Hertogenbosch, she received the Grand Prix of the city of 's-Hertogenbosch: a silver medal and a prize money of € 15,000.The 31-year-old Ribas also proved to be the audience's favorite, winning the ANED Audience Prize. She also won the Wagner Prize and the Junior Jury Prize. Cláudia Ribas, who obtained her Bachelor's degree at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and is currently affiliated with the opera studio of the Opera in Frankfurt, was the undisputed star of the final.
During the successful competition week, the participants made it difficult for the jury, says Andrew Watts, general and artistic director of the IVC: 'All vocalists showed the best of themselves. They captivated the audience and gave truly exciting performances with vocal artistry of the highest level. The IVC is thriving and we celebrated her 70th anniversary in style.'
