Alceste

In 1674, Lully and Quinault presented a new joint creation: Alceste, a Tragédie en musique that combines the dramatic power of the Greek myth from which they drew inspiration with the musical richness of French Baroque. Although Lully and Quinault were criticized by their rivals, the opera managed to enchant the court of Louis XIV and contributed to the development of the new genre of Tragédie en musique. Stéphane Fuget explores this world, in which love, sacrifice and duty are intertwined, supported by beautiful arias and choruses of unprecedented expressive power, impressively performed by Les Épopées and the Chœur de l'Opéra Royal.
