"I have long thought about a concert program dedicated to the contrasting themes of heaven and hell, the spiritual and the physical, saints and sinners," writes pianist Andrew von Oeyen about his album "Angels and Demons". He combines works for solo piano with transcriptions of orchestral, operatic and choral music and chooses the "angelic" path with Bach (in one case in a transcription by Busoni), Debussy, Fauré and Messiaen and the "demonic" path with Liszt, Saint-Saëns and Edward MacDowell. The American-born pianist takes the listener on a journey to the darkest corners of human emotion, but also to rapture and catharsis, proving himself a confident and inspiring guide.
