Awakening

Toshio Hosokawa has composed many works for guitar, including arrangements of Japanese folk songs for solo guitar. The guitar has been associated with poetry and song since ancient times. The classical guitar has a strong affinity with Japanese folk songs, and its sound is reminiscent of the koto. The works recorded here are for solo guitar, for guitar and ensemble, and songs with guitar accompaniment. Guitarist Jakob Kellermann, a great admirer of Hosokawa's works, gives a sensitive and engaging performance together with soprano Ilse Ehrens and the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Christian Carlsen.
