Bach / Abel / Hume

Anja Lechner, praised as "one of the world's most talented cellists" (Strings Magazine), is releasing her latest and first solo album on ECM. Lechner has shaped her broad musical horizon as a member of the renowned Rosamunde Quartet and through collaborations with genre-crossing artists ranging from classical music to jazz and tango. The album revolves around Bach's famous unaccompanied cello suites, the first two of a total of six suites, which she combines with works by Scottish composer Tobias Hume (17th century) and German composer Carl Friedrich Abel (18th century), spanning two centuries. It casts new light on the music. These works were originally composed for viola da gamba, but Lechner's interpretations bring new colours and a broader range. Some were arranged by Lechner herself.
