The dazzling poetry of the Baroque: David Fray's impeccable, profound and nuanced Bach performance was already known from his debut album with Erato (in 2007). The new album by the French master pianist is not only dedicated to him, the great Central German master, but to his entire era: Baroque Encores contains a selection of individual movements and character pieces from around 1700, whose dazzling poetry perfectly matches the "narrative triumphant piano style" that Spiegel Online praised David Fray for years ago. With this beautifully composed programme, Fray returns to Erato for the first time since his release of the Goldberg Variations in 2021. The concept of Baroque Encores is based on a theatre project that Fray developed together with his wife, actress and director Chiara Muti, and which premiered in 2023 at the festival "L'Offrande Musicale". Original works by Baroque masters such as Jean-Philippe Rameau, François Couperin and Domenico Scarlatti find their way to the modern piano. Selected arrangements of Bach and Handel by renowned pianists and composers such as Alexander Siloti, Wilhelm Kempff and Ferruccio Busoni also bring influences from their compositional period into play, including evergreens such as the Air from the Orchestral Suite No. 3 and the Siciliano from the Second Flute Sonata. The new album also contains a world premiere: Bruno Monsaingeon's arrangement of the Andante from the Violin Sonata No. 2.
