"Be Still My Heart" presents works by two little-known Viennese composers. Robert Gund (1865-1927), born in Switzerland, was a highly respected pianist, teacher and composer in Vienna whose works have since fallen into obscurity, and his younger colleague Wilhelm Grosz (1894-1939), who at the time of Gund's death was writing very successful songs for cinema in Berlin. Grosz first emigrated to England in 1934 and subsequently to the United States in 1939, where his music was influenced by both post-romanticism and jazz. This programme, conceived and performed by Christian Immler and Helmut Deutsch, both masters of the German lied, contains many songs that are being recorded for the first time. Grosz' songs, written in England and the US, have inspired countless cover versions by 20th century greats, such as Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and the Beatles.
