Beethoven Trilogy 3: Unheard

Pianist See Siang Wong completes his Beethoven trilogy with "Unheard". The third album contains unfinished, previously unheard works by Beethoven. In his sketchbooks, which he always carried with him, Beethoven noted ideas and musical experiments that he often never realized and which today remain preserved as fragments in libraries and private collections throughout the world. "Unheard" brings together reconstructions and rarities based on such sketches. They showcase Beethoven's incredible wealth of ideas and his creative power. The album contains the Piano Sonata op. 109 in E major, which was composed by Swiss pianist and composer Jürg Wyttenbach based on Beethoven's own sketches; the "Composition in D major", long thought to be lost, about which See Siang Wong says: "You can see from the manuscript that Beethoven worked intensively on this work. It contains much commentary on his musical ideas and countless corrections and variations. In my opinion, this unfinished work by the young Beethoven is one of the most groundbreaking and exciting from this creative period." The album also features the "Concerto in D major for pianoforte" with orchestra, which the influential musicologist Guido Adler discovered and attributed to Beethoven in 1888. Today there is still discussion about who composed this lively, cheerful piece, Beethoven or perhaps the now nearly forgotten Bohemian composer Jan Joseph Rösler (1771-1812)? A highlight of the album is certainly the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in D major No. 6, which See Siang Wong recorded in 2021 with the Camerata Schweiz and conductor Howard Griffiths.
