Buxtehude: Orgelwerken I

As far as we know, the St Egidius organ in Bern has the world's only preserved pipework by the Brabantine organ builder Reinhard Lampeler van Mill (1596) and also contains an important historical collection by Harmen Kröger (1643) and Christian Vater (1714). This organ is an important historical document of North German organ building before Arp Schnitger - an instrument full of power, intensity, tonal color and "sweet sharpness". The aim of this recording is not to invent a new instrument for Buxtehude's organ works, but to demonstrate how the sound of the Bern organ from the late 16th and early 17th centuries influences the presentation of Buxtehude's music - his instrument in Lübeck also had registers from this period. The use of pure meantone temperament, registrations based on sources from the 16th and 17th centuries, and ornaments and diminutions also play an important role here. The meantone temperament also required the transposition of some pieces - a practice that can also be found in works by Johann Sebastian Bach.
