Giovanni Antonini and Sheng-Fang Chiu form a wonderful recorder duo that enjoys playing varied and unusual programmes. This album is named after a piece that Giovanni Sollima composed in 2024: it is a tribute to William Byrd and combines the tenor recorder with the sopranino recorder, which can perfectly imitate birdsong. The programme spans different periods, from the art of diminution and improvisation in the 15th century to the refined duets of Jacques Hottetere in the 18th century and a sonata by Telemann from 1727 to the duets by Bartók from the 1930s, which were originally composed for two violins. The Nuovo ricercare No. 4 (1973) was written by the flute wonder Amico Dolci, son of the great sociologist and pacifist Danilo Dolci.
