Carpathian Tales
Lelie Cristea, Maxim Shamo, Swonderful Orchestra
"Carpathian Tales" is a project that violinist Lelie Cristea holds dear to her heart and has been working on for more than two years. It is a musical dedication to her second home, Romania - full of personal stories and compositions that capture the spirit of the country and sketch a multifaceted picture of the Carpathian Mountains. Each piece is accompanied by its own story. All works combine the unmistakable energy of folk themes, pure emotionality and display a varied spectrum ranging from melancholy to dance-like virtuosity. These are special arrangements and first recordings that come together on this album. For this album, Lelie Cristea also sought out works that are equal in beauty and character to the pieces by Enescu and Porumbescu. But the musical treasures she found surprised even herself: Her expectations were far exceeded. All works are united by their expressive character, which is characterized by folk themes and a wide range of colors. Sensual ballades give way to virtuoso character pieces that cheerfully invite you to dance. With Carpathian Tales and other planned concept albums, Lelie Cristea fulfills her desire to record and capture special works from classical music, film and salon music in exclusive arrangements. Cristea is accompanied by the Swonderful Orchestra under the direction of Catherine Larsen-Maguire and pianist Maxim Shamo.
