"When I play the Bach suites, I suddenly have the feeling that I see the hands of Giacometti that continually knead the sound until a face emerges. This feeling is very closely connected to the Bach suites. You have to dig deep into the string to give birth to the phrase, to ensure that it breathes well: a phrase that is continually in the process of becoming, that continually creates and reshapes itself. I waited a long time before recording these suites. One day, or actually one night, I started. Then came the encounter with Sarah Moon. When I first felt the desire to record the Bach suites, I kept dreaming of her paintings; because every time I look at them, I think of the creation of the world, the separation of the waters, the emergence of the earth, all before the beginning of history."
