None of Giuseppe Clemente Dall'Abaco's works were published during his lifetime, and only one of his cello sonatas became permanently famous (though it was wrongly attributed to Sammartini). In his time, however, Dall'Abaco was a respected cello virtuoso and composer whose success and fame were established primarily in Bonn and London; later he returned to his native Italy, where he died at the age of 95. The works recorded here are taken from a manuscript currently held by the British Library in London and containing approximately 46 undated cello works, including 30 autograph works by Dall'Abaco.
