In 2023, Armenian pianist Heghine Rapyan released her debut album featuring the complete piano sonatas of Stephan Elmas – a world premiere. The international press and music critics soon showed great interest in this beautiful and long-forgotten music. Stephan Elmas is often called the "Chopin of Armenia".
With this second cd, she continues this mission with great responsibility: to shed light on Elmas' legacy as a truly romantic composer in the spirit of Chopin. The album encompasses musical genres that Frédéric Chopin also had a particular preference for: mazurkas, waltzes, scherzos, preludes, nocturnes and a polonaise. These works reflect Chopin's poetic spirit, but are at the same time permeated with Stephan Elmas' individuality and emotional depth.
Some pieces on this recording are being performed and recorded here for the first time. It was a moment of great joy for the artist to work on this hidden gem of music literature – a true journey of discovery, where I felt the excitement and joy of bringing a forgotten voice from the Romantic era back to life.
