Selim Palmgren was invited to join his contemporaries Sergei Rachmaninoff, Alexander Glazunov and Jean Sibelius as professor at the Eastman School of Music and was regarded as their equal as a composer in his time. During Palmgren's lifetime his music was published and frequently performed, earning him great popularity and recognition. Today he is largely forgotten, so Jouni Somero's project to record Palmgren's complete piano works gives us a fuller picture of the music of this fascinating composer. From virtuoso concert etudes to the remarkable variety in the "Ten Pieces", Op. 79, this eighth instalment in the series contains almost exclusively world premiere recordings.
