This CD is part of a project that includes the recording of all chamber music works with instrumental solo parts for which Brahms made versions for viola d'amore. The first CD contains the Horn Trio Op. 40 and the two Clarinet Sonatas Op. 121. The second CD, which will be released in 2026, contains the Clarinet Trio (Op. 114), the Clarinet Quintet (Op. 115), two songs (Op. 91) and the Scherzo from the FAE Sonata. It is a widespread belief that Brahms' late works, which were inspired by his meeting with the clarinetist Richard Mühlfeld, are among his most profound, beautiful and impressive works. What prompted Brahms to write viola d'amore parts for these pieces? Probably the feeling that the expressive power of the viola d'amore would make it possible to discover these pieces from a completely different perspective. There is a special connection between Brahms' musical world and the sound of the viola d'amore.
