Concerti & Motetten

Lodovico Ferronati's compositions, which were composed for the Cappella Musicale of Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo, transform Venetian craftsmanship into civic piety. By analyzing manuscripts from Bergamo, Vienna and Dresden, two motets were rediscovered alongside five concerti: "Crudelis Herodes" and "En gratulemur hodie". The string-heavy three-part concerti with clearly defined ritornellos and bold solo passages recall Vivaldi, but are not imitations. Recorded in the cloister of Astino, this release restores a long-lost chapter of Bergamo music.
