Concerto for Orchestra
St. Louis Symphony, Stephane Deneve
Delos is delighted to begin a new journey together with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and its Music Director Stéphane Denève. For Delos' first album, there could be no better statement than releasing the world premiere recording of three works by the Pulitzer Prize- and Grammy® Award-winning composer Kevin Puts, born in St. Louis. "Concerto for Orchestra" is dedicated to the SLSO and Stéphane and was written in response to the tragic school shooting in Uvalde in 2022. "Silent Night Elegy" comes from Kevin Puts' acclaimed opera, which adapts the award-winning film Joyeux Noël. It tells the story of the spontaneous ceasefire on the Western Front on Christmas Eve 1914 during World War I. "Virelai", inspired by Guillaume de Machaut, was written for the opening concert of Stéphane's tenure as Music Director of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. This album celebrates the dynamic collaboration of the SLSO with Stéphane and showcases the orchestra's commitment to artistic excellence and compelling musical experiences.
