Esquisses de flute

It took 24 years to bring different compositions together into one album and give them meaning. This work intends to provide the framework for research that has been conducted over a long period: musical and personal experience. When the result of these actions conveys a sense of coherence, it means that the right moment has arrived to complete the work. Musical research largely revolved around the extended techniques of flute sound and experimenting with the possibilities offered by new technologies. On one hand, personal research attempted to explore the depths of the soul and serve as a mediator between one's own spirit and the compositional gesture. On the other hand, it is the result of an analysis and translation of the sensations experienced by human experiences in life.
Mini Suite in D Moll
A piece for solo flute with an intimate and contemplative atmosphere, in which the theme of loneliness is explored through the extended techniques of the flute.
A Volo Radente
Inspired by the poetry of Biagio Marin, the composition is based on an imaginary journey by seaplane from Grado to Pola, flying close to the sea, an element that unites people and cultures.
Deperimenti
The work is inspired by the three-dimensional concept of painting and in particular by the gesture of cutting the canvas and everything it meant for an artist like Lucio Fontana. The sound of the flute is accompanied by appropriately developed sounds and effects of cutting a canvas.
Elementi
The idea of this composition starts from a consideration of the structured/unstructured. Much work has always been done around this concept in different sectors and of course also in music. By deeply analyzing the compositions of Bach, Beethoven and many others, we discover that rhythmic and melodic cells are often structured with certain rules or that already existing themes are completely deconstructed.
In the case of "Elementi", the theme, of a pastoral nature, is new and forms part of the composition itself. It is deconstructed through various digital sound processing techniques (such as granular synthesis, for example), but also with more traditional work performed on staves where the notes are scattered in the performance of informal sounds produced by the piccolo.
Thus a backward path unfolds that gradually reveals the theme from the deconstructed original structure that only vaguely appears at the end of the piece.
Garage
, recorded in an underground parking garage in the city center, is a piece that contrasts a traditional musical instrument, the flute, with a less "traditional" instrument, namely a garage door that produces sounds reminiscent of the voice of a saxophone. The counterpoint between the two voices is interpreted as a dialogue between a woman and a man and reflects the diversity and difficulty of maintaining verbal exchange between the two sexes.
Untied
This piece emerged from collaboration with guitarist Anna Garano and was influenced by the musical phrasing of flamenco. Using electronics and some cantabile flute themes and improvisations, an intimate and introspective atmosphere is created.
String Breath
is a path on which three powerfully developed electric guitars merge with flutes, in a counterpoint of fierce beasts and lovely heavenly beings blowing between the strings and making the soul tremble.
Achille (Hommage à Claude Debussy)
The flute is interwoven with the violin in honor of one of the composers who most influenced the musical evolution of the previous century. The piece is built on a bass pedal that supports the melodies of the two instruments.
Pola Più
This work is a tribute to the city of Pola. It is inspired by the tragic exodus of Italians who lived in that area after World War II. The landscape is a kind of ghost town where you hear the sound of wind, solitary walks, slow sounds of the shipyard and other sound impressions that even today still penetrate in winter.
Suspensus (Omaggio a Luigi Nono)
Luigi Nono was one of the composers whose work most contributed to my artistic growth. A tribute was therefore appropriate. The symphonic piece compares choir and orchestra with flute and voice. The result is something very suggestive with a personal aesthetic that immerses us in the world of musical tributes that Nono and Kurtag once made to each other.
