This recording explores the emotional depth, colour and creativity of Finnish concert works for violin and orchestra. The pieces span the transitional landscape of the country's national music in the 20th century, where mysticism, modernism, folklore and experiment exist alongside each other. Important figures such as Selim Palmgren and Aarre Merikanto are represented, as well as the charming film music of Einar Englund, who wrote under a pseudonym. Striking works by Väinö Haapalainen, Väinö Raitio and Nils-Eric Fougstedt complete the programme.
