Flemish Music Heritage: Ryelandt II

The Vlaams Muziekerfgoed series is a journey of discovery that breathes new life into remarkable pieces of musical heritage. In close collaboration with the Studiecentrum voor Vlaamse Muziek, the recordings are based on intensive research in libraries and archives and carefully compiled score editions. This third installment of the Vlaams Muziekerfgoed series focuses on piano works by Joseph Ryelandt (1870-1965). The recording spans nearly five decades of his creative output and contains five piano works, including two early sonatas, the expressive Zes Préludes and two later works that emphasize Ryelandt's evolution towards a more transparent, neoclassical style. The album, performed by Jozef De Beenhouwer, who has championed Ryelandt's music for decades, highlights a versatile and refined voice in Belgian music history.
